FYI-May 2, 1914 Chicago, Illinois - "Myrtle Hagan, 3 years old, for whose custody a legal fight has been made in the federal and state courts, today was awarded to her mother, Vida Hagen, when County Judge Owens set aside the adoption of the child by Mr and Mrs Thurlow Crawford. The girl was taken from her mother when a few days old and given to the Crawfords, whose baby died a few days previously. "I didn't know for months afterward that our baby had died and that this child was not my own," Mrs Crawford told the court. "This is a repetition of a drama that was enacted thousands of years ago" counsel for the foster parents pleaded "in that case Solomon awarded the child to the real mother, who show she would sacrifice anything in its behalf, But here is a mother..." Judge Owens interrupted the attorney. "The mother of this child has shown by a search lasting three years that she never abandoned it." he said. "She has satisfied me she did not know what she was doing when she signed a paper relinquishing her right to it. I am sorry for the Crawfords, but the mother has a legal right to her child."
