My great-great-grandfather was Jacob SCHADE, b. 12 Feb 1834 in Solz, Rothenburg, Hessia, son of John SCHADE and Martha Elizabeth STRANGE (I know nothing else about this couple). Info begins on my genealogy Web site at http://www.hiltonpond.org/genealogy/wc01/wc01_117.htm Jacob served with the 2nd Regiment of the Hussars from 1855-58 (details wanted about this group) and emigrated to the vicinity of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in October 1859 (vessel and port not known). He enlisted in 82nd PA Vol. Reg. Infantry at Pittsburgh on ?? ??, 1861; mustered out as Corporal in Philadelphia on ?? ??, 1864. His name is on the Pennsylvania Monument at Gettysburg, and I'm honored to have his Civil War cap. Jacob married Elizabeth LAUTERBACH (about whom I have no information) on 27 December 1864 on Mt. Washington overlooking Pittsburgh. They moved to Carnegie (Mansfield), Pennsylvania, on May 3, 1866. Jacob was a Charter member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carnegie, Pennsylvania. Jacob and Elizabeth begat 11 children, including (birth order not certain) Elizabeth (my great grandmother, b. 14 January 1868), Jacob, William, Christian, Charles, Margaret (Maggie), Mary, and Sophia; other names not known. Jacob died 20 Jan 1913 in Carnegie, Pennsylvania, and is buried in Chartiers Cemetery. I would be grateful for whatever information you can share. Best wishes, BILL | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
