I am researching the Mayes family of Newton County, Mississippi. Specifically, the family of Samuel Newton Mayes, b. Nov. 15, 1864, in Alabama. His parents are listed in the 1870 census of Newton Co. as Samuel O. and Mary S. Mayes, both born in Alabama. Samuel Newton Mayes married Minnie Lula Rowzee in 1884 and Emma Tillman in 1902. This family later married into the Hollingsworth and Gressett families of Newton County. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
