I am looking for cousins of my late father Maurice MacDonald from the Pictou-River John area of Nova Scotia. Charles (B- 1768) & Agnes MacDonald (B-1772) –- sailed from Glasgow, Scotland to Pictou, Nova Scotia - arrived August 10, 1803 on the ship Commerce – origin Perthshire, Scotland. Accompanied by children- Elizabeth (B-Scotland-1794), Alexander (B-Scotland-1801) and James (B-Scotland-1802). Alexander apparently married Catherine (? ) and had 1 child John MacDonald – Feb 24/ 1826 – he died Dec 21, 1898 at River John, N. S. – left 12 children behind. John MacDonald– Born Feb 24/ 1826 at Middle River, N. S. – moved to Bigney Settlement/ Welsford, River John -- Died Dec 21/ 1898 – Buried St Georges Anglican cemetery, River John, N. S. John had two wives & produced 12 children in total. John Married Elizabeth Graham (Born 1832) Elizabeth gave birth to 4 children – First child: (1) Alexander MacDonald 1863 (2) John MacDonald - 1865 (3) Catherine MacDonald 1867 (4) Elizabeth died giving birth to Robert MacDonald -- June 28/1870. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> John Married Janet Balfour (daughter of William & Mary Balfour) of Middle River, N. Born 1879- Died 1940-buried Bellevue Cemetery, River John, N. S. Maude had given birth to Dewey Joudrey by her first marriage to Berton Joudrey.. Maude’s second marriage was to Charles MacDonald She gave birth to only one child to Charles MacDonald and that was my father : Maurice MacDonald (B- July 26, 1908) married Orphy Merinda MacPhail (B- April 28, 1913) originally from Grand Entry, Magdalene Islands, P. Q. on September 19, 1932 and had 7 children in Pictou. N. S. Charles Robert MacDonald – Born March 26, 1934- Died March 20, 1988. John William (Bill) MacDonald – Born Feb 14, 1937.-retired in Leesburg, Florida Muriel Barbara “Gale” MacDonald – Feb 18, 1939- retired in Oakville, Ont. Wayne Maurice MacDonald – Feb 8, 1940-retired- in Murray Harbour, PEI Winston Wourtle MacDonald – May 1, 1941-retired in Ottawa, Ont. Garfield (Gary) Dewey MacDonald – Nov 12, 1945- lives near Pictou N.S. Emma Lee MacDonald – Nov 10, 1949 – semi-retired Antigonish, N.S. None of the 12 children born to John & Elizabeth/ Janet MacDonald have been traced despite untold hours of research. It appears that they may all have made their way to western Canada or the USA – Montana; Wyoming; Colorado; North or South Dakota’s. Mabel (MacDonald) Christenson was a teacher and she may have retired near Middleboro, Mass.
