Query Text:

My name is Shana Derstine. I am looking for my biological siblings and parents. There were four of us. We're black. I was the youngest. The oldest was four years old. We were taken away because we were left alone too often. The older two were placed together and the younger two were placed together - my sister and I. We were born in Philadelphia, PA. I'm not sure what part or in what hospital. I do not know what our mother looked like. Our father was supposedly a larger man. They were both young. Our mother was about 18 when I was born and our father was about 23. His name was Ronald Michael or Mitchell Taylor. Her name was ReJenna Shirell Whisnant. It may not have been spelled that way though. He visited with me one time while I was at my now adoptive home. The agency that handled our case was Bethanna. Our social worker's name was Jackie. I was named Rehsheata Francina Whisnant. My siblings names were ReJenna, Ronald, and Ronnie. Ronnie (girl) and Rondald were with a foster mother named Mrs. Edwards. I think her name was Madeline. She was a black woman. We used to have visits with them when we were very young. We lost track of them one year I think around Christmas. There was a lot of controversy surrounding our adoption seeing as the foster family that wanted to adopt us was white. I believe we had the first interracial adoption - black/white - go through in Pennsylvania. I don't know if Ronnie and Ronald were adopted by Mrs. Edwards, but they were with her for a while. I was about 9 months old when I got to my now adoptive family. My sister was about 2 years old when she came. It was 1987 - August maybe - when I started living there. Before I got there, I had been at one other foster home. I think it may have just been a woman who did respit or something. I was in the hospital before I got to her house. I think my other siblings were fine. I had to stay a bit because I was so young and wasn't being fed properly. I was only a few months old at that point. I don't have any more information really, other than birth dates. I was born 10/30/86, my sister was born 7/24/85.
