To purchasers of my book: “GURROLA – 500 Years in the New World” Subject: Pancho Villa – the illegitimate son of Luis Ferman GURROLA and Micaela Arambula – true or false? As promised to my book purchasers, I was going to research subject theory and report my findings to you. Said theory was declared by Mr. Ruben Osorio in his book “The Secret Family of Pancho Villa,” published by the Center for Big Bend Studies, Sul Ross State University, Alpine, Texas in the year 2000. My primary objective was to identify how Gurrola got involved in this theoretical scenario. My findings, indeed, identify a Maria Ursula Salome de Gurrola as being the wife of Jose Luis Gonzaga Ferman and they had a son named Luis Ferman Gurrola, baptised Nov. 14, 1835 at Canatlan, Durango. Maria Ursula Gurrola was identified by me as being a direct, blood-line descendant of my 9th great-grandparents, Pedro Ruiz de Egurrola y Arancibia and his wife, dona Isabel de Castaneda y Leon, daughter of the conquistador don Rodrigo de Castaneda, a captain with Hernan Cortez. My genealogical curiosity and instinct got the best of me and I asked myself: “Just who is this Ferman family?” Please note the following: 1. Mr. Osorio claims in his book that “at some time during the 1830s, an immigrant named Luis Ferman of Jewish origin and an Austrian native of Liechtenstein arrived in Mexico.” He does not support that declaration with any factual documentation or identify his source. 2. My findings, which are supported and confirmed by parochial documents, show that “Jose Luis Gonzaga Ferman” was baptized at Santiago Papasquiaro on June 22, 1808 and later married Maria Ursula Gurrola. After finding this major 1808 baptismal date and origin inconsistencies, my curiosity in learning just when the Ferman family arrived in Mexico, really took over. My findings confirmed again by a marriage act, show that the progenitors of the Ferman clan were ANGELO GERMAN AND MARIA DE GURROLA, and reads in part: “In the Valle de la Sauceda… May 17, 1742… casse y vele a Juan Joseph German espanol natural de San Juan de SONORA y residente aqui en la Sauceda ocho meces… viudo por muerte de Michaela Quexada, hijo lex’o de Angelo German y de Maria de Gurrola… difuntos… con Fructuosa Gertrudis Rodriguez Espanola natural de dicho valle… hija lex’a de Lazaro Rodriguez y de Ma. Josepha Aragon.” Copies of these documents, which I have in my possession, clearly show that the Ferman family was in the province of Sonora ca. 1720 +/-. Next, either Angelo German or his son, Juan Joseph German, migrated to Durango (La Sauceda ca. 1741). In the absence of any factual documentation, I cannot accept the theory that Pancho Villa is the illegitimate son of Luis Ferman Gurrola. Clearly, the only way to settle the matter is to have a DNA test, in which I would gladly participate in the cost. Based on the parochial records, PANCHO VILLA IS THE LEGITIMATE SON OF AGUSTIN ARANGO AND MICHAELA ARAMBULA. Ed Gurrola P.S.
