ELKINS-VA-TN-?-TX I am trying to trace back a Harmon David Elkin(s), born 3/3/1823 ? County, VA, married 12/31/1863 TX, died 03/22/1922 in Coleman Co., Texas. He was married to Mary Jane Borders, born 12/01/1834 Pike County, Georgia, died 02/01/1923 Coleman County, Texas. They had 11 childred including my great-grandfather William Jackson Elkins (born 04/18/1866 or alternate 1855, married to Mildred Cora Sanders 8/11/1887 TX) I believe Harmon Elkins Sr. moved to Texas about 1876. My family says (not always reliable) they were from Tennessee & North Carolina. The web shows him from Virginia. I have also seen some rumor that Harmon was a full-blooded Cherokee and possible had another wife. One correspondent wrote that they moved up north before the Civil War. I just can't seem to find Harmon David Elkins on the Census's for TN or Virginia or anywhere else prior to him showing up on the Texas census in 1870. The age of Mr. Elkins when he married Mary Jane Borders would leave me to believe possible he had another wife prior to 1863. Also, there are so many Williams in the Elkins family, possibly my grandfather is not the one mentioned in the Census for Coleman, even though he lived there and raised a family at some point in time. If anyone has any information on this branch of the Elkins that moved to Texas in 1876 or so, I would appreciate the information. Thanking you in advance. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
