My ancestors surname was Sanches(z) de Aveiro and they lived in Portugal, possibly in the town of Aveiro in the 1600's. They were Jews and had to flee the peninsula because of religious intolerance, they landed in Hispaniola (Dominican Republic) and changed their surname to Gomez. I've taken DNA 12 marker test but as far as connecting to my ancestors in Portugal I've reached a dead end. Any ideas how to find in Portugal old documents, historic records, list of Jews, inquisition, deportees etc...?
