Trying to prove family story about Peter Shields, b. abt 1756 in England, came to America with the British Army during the American Revolutionary War, was captured, escaped, and joined the American side. Fought at the Battle of Yorktown under Geo. Washington and was present for the surrender of Cornwallis. Settled 1st in Hardy County, VA; then in Braxton County, Va. He m. Elizabeth Singleton and had 8 children w/ her: Peter, jr., Adam, John, Daniel,Margaret, Elizabeth, Nancy, & Ann. Adam moved to Indiana, the rest pretty much stayed in Braxton County, where Peter Sr. died in 1832. One of the other children married and moved to Meigs County, Ohio. Especially need to find muster rolls of Virginia Militia or identify which regiments and companies Peter, Sr. was attached to on both the English and the American sides. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
