Trying to reconcile who the actual parents of the following early New Brunswick settlers/Loyalists:- Thomas Carle, Amy Carle and Phebe Carle were. Were they related or were their siblings? 01) According to E.C. Wright in article eleventh on "Pioneer Families Of New Brunswick, there were amongst the Loyalists who came to New Brunswick three men of Carle:- namely Jonas, Robert and Thomas. Thomas we know was born on Long Island and had resided in Terrytown in the Province of New York. Jonas and Robert may have been brothers of Thomas, but there is no record of their relationship. I don't believe they were brothers? Hindsight is always great. Of the three men, only Thomas Carle had children. Has anyone researched this? >>>>> 02) E. Stone Wiggins in the "History of Queen's County, N.B." states that "Thomas Clarke Carl was a son of Joseph Carle. Was his father Joseph Carle who died in 1759 and was married to Aimy Wilson? >>>>> 03) In Joseph Carle's will of 1759, there is reference to a young Thomas then of Tarrytown is referred to as the eldest son; he was to come of age (21 years old?) about 10 Feb 1764. So he would have been born about 1743? This would account for his birth year being recorded at 31 Jan 1741/42. However his mother, if it was Aimy Wilson, would have been been 61 years old, if she was born in 1691. So is this Thomas Carle, born 10 Feb 1743 of New York and died abt. 1809 at Fredericksburgh, Dutchess, New York, USA , maybe, the cousin of Thomas Carle who was born 31 Jan 1741/42 in Long Island, New York and died bef. Feb 1824 at Grand Lake, Queens Co., New Brunswick? There birthdates and birth places are different. In New Brunswick many Carle researchers, including myself, have used information gleaned from many sources and attributed this information to both Thomas Carles; not realizing that only one is the son of Joseph Carle and Aimy Wilson. >>>>> So, if this is the Thomas Carle, referred in his father's will, Joseph Carle, as coming of age on 10 Feb 1764, this would give his birth year as 1742/43 and his mother was referred to as Amy in the will. Then how do you reconcile the birth years of his siblings, if they were his siblings:- 01) Joseph Carle; 02) Millicent Carle, b: 1713; 03) Mary Carle, b. 1718; 04) Phebe Carle, b: 1719; 04) Adonijah Carle, b: 1721; 05) Thomas Clark Carle, b: 31 Jan 1741/42 in Long Island, New York; 06) Amy Carle. I don't know if this is the same Amy Carle who was the daughter of Joseph Carle. My interest is the Amy Carle (1750-8 Sep 1831; in Wickham, Queens Co., N.B.) who married John Shaw. >>>>> 04) Here is another wrinkle. Janet T. Newman who is deceased and has done extensive research in this area has determined that Thomas Carle (1743-1809) of Kent (now Foshay Corners in Putnam Co.), was the son of Samuel Carle (d. 1788). This Thomas Carle's will was proved 18 August 1809. (Will C369 File box 1746 Dutchess Co., New York.) >>>>> There are too many inconsistencies. >>>>> Has anyone researched in depth this Carle family in New Brunswick and its American Loyalist roots. Any and all suggestions welcomed? In trust, George Shaw Notify Administrator about this message? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
