I'm searching for information on the parents, siblings, and family of my gg grandmother: Margaret WIEKE, b 10 Feb 1818, Hollidaysburg, PA, d 1906, in Lennox, Taylor, IA (or Nodaway, Adams, IA), m John Samuel MARDIS, b 30 Jul 1818 in Bedford, Franklin, or Huntingdon Co, PA, d 1908 in Santa Rosa, Sonoma, CA. Margaret and John Samuel's family was living in Muscatine County, Iowa, on the 1850 US Census. I have unconfirmed family records indicating Margaret's father was Jonathan WIEKE, mother unknown. John and Margaret's children were - James MARDIS, b abt 1841 in PA, d 24 Oct 1901 in Gardiner, MT, m Harriet A ?; - Mary Elizabeth MARDIS, b 11 Jun 1845 in Hollidaysburg, Blair, PA, d 18 Jun 1921 in Lenox, Taylor, IA, m James Wesley ALLEN, b 1843 in OH - Margaret MARDIS, b abt 1849 in PA, m ? EIKER; - Matilda Ann MARDIS, b 31 May 1854 in Springfield, Cedar, IA, d 14 Oct 1892 in New Alluwe, Nowata, Indian Terr (OK), m Wilhelm Dethrick THUMAN, b 1852 in Germany; - Abigail MARDIS, b abt 1856 in IA, m ? KELSO, b abt 1845; - Louis MARDIS, b abt 1858 in IA. On the 1860 and 1870 US Census, there are several families with the surnames WIKE and WYKE in Blair County, Pennsylvania. These listings include three women of the right age to be Margaret's mother - Magdelena WYKE b abt 1802, living in Huston Twp, Blair, PA; - Maria WYKE b abt 1784, living in Huston Twp, Blair, PA; - and Mary WIKE b abt 1798, living in Woodbury Twp, Blair, PA. On the 1840 US Census, there are several WIKE and WYKE families living in Huntingdon County, PA. Blair County was formed in 1846 from portions of Huntingdon and Bedford Counties.
