Phoebe Bull and Horace Martin of Ontario Canada. Hello, My name is Steven James and I am descended from the Line of Bull of Beekman Patent Dutchess County New York and Hallowell Prince Edward County Ontario Canada. My 3-Great Grandparents were Horace Martin (i) and Phoebe Bull of Southeastern Ontario. I am seeking any information or details about THIS Phoebe Bull (b. 1817 Hallowell Ontario; daughter of Amos Bull and Martha Cunningham) and Phoebe's husband Horace Martin (i) or their son Horace Martin (ii) of Prince Edward County and Frontenac County of southeastern Ontario Canada. I am especially interested in learning more about these 3 extra-difficult to trace persons: Phoebe Bull (1817-1889) Any Photos or Info please? Horace Martin (i) (?-?) Husband of Phoebe Bull Horace Martin (ii) (1844-1917) Son of Phoebe Bull, Lawyer Phoebe Bull (1817-1889; Hallowell Ontario Canada) and her husband Horace Martin (i) are my 3-Great-Grandparents. THIS Phoebe Bull is the Daughter of Amos Bull and Martha Cunningham of Beekman Patent - Dutchess County New York and she was born in Hallowell Ontario in 1817. She is supposedly buried in Wellington Cemetery near Kingston Ontario. Three Other Phoebe Bulls (of many more!) include her Aunt, her Cousin, and her Neice. Were any members of this family group United Empire Loyalists UEL ? Please any photos or info you have will be greatly appreciated. They may have been Quakers (Bulls), Mennonites (Martins), and possible UEL Loyalists as the timing is just about right for all that (late 1700s early 1800s) and migration from Beekman Patent Dutchess County New York to Prince Edward County Hallowell Ontario Canada During that time. (The ascending Line Of Bull is rather easily traced all the way back through the Clossons, Williamsons, and Howlands to early 1600s Plymouth Colony in Massachusetts and then back to England.) Horace Martin (i) and Phoebe Bull's son Horace Martin (ii) (1844-1917) is my great great grandfather who married Anne Thompson (1846-1932). He was a Lawyer in Upper Canada (now Ontario). I have photos and info to share on Anne Thompson and Horace Martin. I would love to know more. Please write if you have anything at all. Thank you so much for your help and consideration. Eastern Standard Time, mailer@cousinconnect.com writes: Here's the response: ----------------------------------- I find your Martin family very intriguing. Your Horace Martin seems to have some resemblance to my father . My most distant Martin was a Francis Martin born around 1820 who was a shoemaker that was born in Hastings County and married a Sarah Ann Freeman, daughter of a Simeon Freeman. Sarah Ann Freeman was born around 1826 and we believe that the Simeon Freeman was a son of Thomas Freeman . Thomas Freeman was the brother of Dorcas Freeman and John Freeman. These were the only three remaining children who survived illness in Quebec, Canada when the Freeman family left the Freeman farm of Saratoga New York after the Battle of Saratoga was lost on their farm . My grandmother was Lydie Ruby Martin, daughter of George Wesley Martin and Mary Alice Vardy of Hastings County, Ontario. ----------------------------------- From: Bonny Campbell blackband2005@yahoo.ca ================================== Dear Ms Bonny, Thank you so much for your reply and for your interest in our Martin Family Genealogy. Yes, I was very fortunate that my grandmother had that old photo of my 2-Great Grandfather attorney Horace Martin (1844-1917 & photo enclosed below). I have been able to find out some information on him but very little on his father (also Horace Martin) and his mother Phoebe Bull. They all inhabited the area north of Kingston in Frontenac county Ontario. I have recently found out that I was looking at the wrong Phoebe Bull. Her date of birth was a bit late and with the help of another distant cousin in Canada we have determined that OUR Phoebe Bull was Phoebe Jane Bull (born sometime after June 1803) and who is the daughter of John Bull; NOT his brother Amos Bull as we had previously believed. There are no fewer than FIVE Phoebe Bulls in that family group alone as well as many others! I have seen the name Freeman before on several lists and things when searching my roots. (I have noticed quite frequently that several unrelated names appear again and again on certain lists in association with my ancestors) I have also suspected (for no real good reason) that our Martin Line may have migrated from the USA. Your Freemans sound like Loyalists so you may very well be UAE (United Empire Loyalists of King George III) and entitled to that title if you can prove your descendency. Congratulations! Unfortunately, the name Martin is almost as common as Smith and very difficult to search, so please if you have any more details about your/our? Martin heritage, please share and perhaps (who knows?) we will turn out to be distant cousins too! In either case, I am pleased to make your acquaintance and wish to thank you so much for your most interesting input. I hope we might be able to collaborate further on our respective and possibly combined family genealogies. Thank you again. I am respectfully at your service, Steven James
