Looking for information re my great uncle Arthur Gordon Leslie Woodland, born 1899, Falmouth, Cornwall, England, son of William Arhtur Strachan & Mary Woodland, known as Florence Strachan. Arthur was put with Barnardos in 1911 with his brother William Arthur [known as Woodland] and they came to Canada in 1912 aboard SS Corinthian. Arthur eventually married Jessie Watson [another British Home Child from Surbiton in Surrey] in 1917, in Toronto. Their first child Gordon William died in Oct 1918 in Wingham Hospital aged 2 months, registered as Woodlawn. The family were living at 59 Huron Street, Ripley, Bruce County Ontario at the time. Then they disappear, but Barnardos said that he & Jessie had 4 children in total, and that they last heard of him in Whitby in 1964. Any help on his life would be greatly appreciated. Family anecdotes stated that he was a minister and needed psychiatric help after his wife & children died in a rectory fire, but I can't find any evidence that he'd been ordained in either the Anglican, Methodist [stated religion] or Baptist denominations.
