I was born at the Miseracordia Hospital in Winnipeg on June 1, 1952. My birth mother was from Brandon, Ukrainian and unmarried. Her name was Ethel (Tillie) Samchuk, now Lightfoot. My given name at birth was Ethel. I am searching for my birth father, Andre. He was born in Quebec around 1922. He had dark hair, brown eyes and was 5'8" tall. His family, French Roman Catholic, had a small business in the late 60's. He had a younger brother, born 1930, studying medicine at the University of Montreal. His mother died when he was young. Andre had two years university training before joining the Army. He was overseas in England. Upon his return, he got a job as a salesman for a clothing store in Quebec City and did some traveling for them. After a few years, he re-enlisted and ended up in Shilo Manitoba in 1951. He hoped to become an officer but his English wasn't good enough. He met my Mom, Ethel (Tillie) Samchuk at a dance in Brandon, Manitoba It is possible that he does not know I exist. I wasn't adopted until I was six months old because my mother wanted a Catholic family to adopt me. My birth mother lives in Summerland British Columbia. She has had no contact with my birth father.
