MCCRAY : ROBBINS | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

We think Ian Robbins came from Scotland Originally. There are quite a few Robbins in Scotland, around your area. Do you have any records or Ian Robbins or Sarah McCray in your neck of the woods? Ian Robbins 1 SmartMatches Birth: 1650 in Wales, England Death: Swansea, Glamorganshire, Wales, Great Britain Sex: M Father: Mother: Reference: I3114 Spouses & Children Mary Mccray (Wife) b. 1650 in England or Scotland Marriage: 1670 Children: Isaac Robbins b. 1670 in Wales, England Nathaniel Robbins b. 1670 John Robbins William Robbins b. After. 1670 http://www.geocities.com/famhxlady/ian.html There is some controversy as to where the family, specifically Ian, was from. Robins, with or without a double b, is a surname from the Christian name Robert. It is quite widely distributed. A contact I have in England says she has been doing Somerset transcriptions and found a number there, also in Devon, as well as Gloucestershire. The Christian name Ian is indubitably Scottish, and that paired with Mary McGray's name suggests that the family did, in fact, come from Scotland. Some documentation shows a strong line in England (Robbins Journal v.1 No.1 July 1989 ROB 025). It is thought that this family was Separate Baptists, a dissenter group, and moved from England to Wales, and then to America. It is my belief that Ian & Mary may have gone from Scotland to England, where they raised their family. At this point I believe Isaac & Sarah McGray had William & Elisha in England, then traveled (with whatever other ancestors I have yet to uncover)to Wales, where Richard was born. From there, I believe the young men, with their families boarded ships heading for the Americas. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
