Hello. My name is Larry Andersen. My maternal grandfather was named Valentine Soto (2/14/1880 - ). During all of my growing up years mother told us she was a Jackson. It wasn’t until just a couple of years ago that I learned the grandfather was really Valentine Soto. Since then I have been able to learn a little about him and obtain some documentation as well. Grandfather has proven to be elusive, and as they say in program CSI, “…the trail has grown cold.” What do I know about Valentine? Born El Paso, Texas in 1880. Apparently moved to coastal/central California about 1900 (+- 10 years), had several wives and about a half dozen children. Worked as a house painter and wallpaper hanger. I have managed to obtain a copy of his WW I Draft Registration Card (9/12/1918). One of the questions is Nearest Relative. He wrote in Frances Soto of 613 Stockton St, El Paso, Texas. Google Earth shows a new subdivision next to a busy freeway interchange at that location. I did an online search of all the cemeteries in the El Paso area and could only find a Francisca Soto (1887-1970) who may well have been the listed nearest relative. So, I no longer have a mailing address and the old neighborhood has been plowed under and it has been almost 40 years since a possible great aunt has died and been buried. Indeed, the trail is cold. Hopefully, if any of this is familiar, perhaps we are long lost cousins. For most of my life I had been denied knowledge of Grandfather Valentine. I have learned his name, when and where he was born and where he died. But I know nothing of his parents, his siblings - anything about his young life. I would like to learn more about him so that he more than just an entry in a list of names. I would like to find out if I have more kin out there that I have yet and wish to meet. If indeed we have Valentine Soto in common I would appreciate any help you can lend and I would be glad to share all that I have learned. Thank you for your patience.
