[UPDATE: FOUND!!] My mother and I are looking for my half-sister. She was relinquished at birth, Feb. 1972. She was born in Des Moines, but my mother was told that a couple in Davenport wanted her. Delivered at Mercy Hospital and adopted through Lutheran Social Services (now called Lutheran Services of Iowa). The adoption was finalized by Hillcrest. My half-sister is racially mixed, and her adoptive parents were not. So she probably knew she was adopted her whole life. She was healthy at birth. Brown hair, brown eyes, fair, skinny, and long. She was loved and never forgotten. I have some info to update this listing. We have since learned that my birthsister's adoption was officially finalized in Johnson County, IA. That means the adoptive family might have lived in Iowa City at the time. We also learned that her decree date was June 18, 1973--a whole year or more off from the time she was given up. So I'm not sure, but probably her birth certificate says 1973 rather than 1972. Also, we are no longer sure it was Mercy Hospital that she was born in (they did not have my mom's records from that period). We are checking with Lutheran Hospital and Broadlawns/Polk Co Public. Hillcrest family services is holding the privacy release to open my mother's contact info to the adoptee if she requests it. So if anybody reading this thinks they might be the one, please go ahead and contact Hillcrest Family Services to see whether or not for sure. UPDATE: We were connected via ISRR, and Hillcrest officially confirmed the relationship and current legal names of birthmother and adoptee.
