HARTLEY/BOMFORTH Looking for information on my Charles Hartley born 1831, London, England who came to New Zealand c1859 & married in 1861 (aged 30yrs), Okains Bay Banks Peninsula, Martha HOLSTEIN widow, MS Bomforth. Martha was from East Retford, England. From his obituary & death cert. Charles died 7 Feb 1908 in Akaroa & was buried in Okains Bay Cemetery with Martha who had died at the age of 42yrs on June 10 1880. Charle had apparently travelled to several parts of the globe as a salor & later turned his hand to whaling in the South Pacific frequently visitng NZ shores it would appear as he spoke Maori fluently before settling permanetly in NZ.
