Query Text: |
Where does the surname ELANDS come from? I have "ELANDS" ancestors in Gelderland, Netherlands going back to at least the 1770s. I found out via google that "Eland" is the Dutch word for moose (or 'elk' in Europe) - also there is a type of antelope called the Common Eland in America (named by Dutch immigrants). I don't know of any Dutch ancestors that immigrated to America. All my ancestors are from the UK & the Netherlands. Any ideas where the surname "ELAND" or "ELANDS" (etc) comes from please contact me! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
