2xgreat grandfather Thomas Looney was born in Isle of Man c 1798, and married Betsy Eelback (born Harrington) in Harrington Cumbria c 1826. They and their children subsequently moved to South Shields. On 1841 Census, in Harrington, he was a cordwainer.
