My grandfather, Arthur Elliott BETTS married Anna Laura HIRD in St. Chalres, Missouri 17 Nov. 1904. After having 4 sons together while living in Dubuque, Iowa, they divorced on 9 May, 1878, according to the Dubuque Ia District Courrt Records. Subsequently, he married a 50 yr old woman named Alice and had a landscaping business in Springfield, Illinois. When he died in 1932, his wife left blank most of the spaces on the form for lack of knowledge, however this much is on the Soc. Sec. records. BETTS ARTHUR ELLIOTT M/W UNK 2840723 1932-08-31 SANGAMON SPRINGFIELD 32-09-01 He is supposedly buried at Camp Butler, but I haven't been able to find him there. According to data derived from the 1930 Census of Springfield Illinois we see his 3 sons listed, living with their father and step mother the day the census taker visited their home in Springfield. Their given ages were 53 for Arthuf and 52 for Alice, so evidently they had married in 1927 or 1928. But where were they married and when? And what is the maiden name of Alice? I have been unable to find this information. Perhaps somebody on the list has a missing Alice who their family suggest had married a BETTS.....I'm hoping. I found this possibility in the Soc. Sec. records but without maiden name. I don't know if this is the person I'm looking for. Does anyone recognize this Alice?
