Looking for information on:- PETER (GEORGE?) MURDOCH was born in Islay, Argyllshire, Scotland and died Aft. 1886 in ..., Scotland (U.K.)?. He married (MARY) ELIZABETH ISABELLA COLQUHOUN CAMPBELL, before 1850, daughter of JAMES CAMPBELL and FLORA COLQUHOUN. She was born Abt. 1822 also in Islay, and died 29 Jul 1886 in 154 Waddell St., Hutchesontown District, Glasgow. The 1861 Scottish census has the family living at:- 13 Clyde Terrace, Gorbals District, Glasgow with an aunt, Elizabeth Ross, 74, head, Lodging House Keeper, born Kilchoman, [Island of] Islay. In the 1871 Census, the Murdochs were living at 19 Surrey Lane, Govan, Glasgow. The household was as follows:- Peter Murdoch, 48, head, Apothecary Shopman; Isabella Murdoch, 41; Mary J Murdoch, 16, calendar worker, born Glasgow; Thomas Murdoch, 14, message boy, born Glasgow; Flora A Murdoch, 11, scholar, born Glasgow. Their son, THOMAS (MURDOCH) MURDOCK, b. 23 Sep 1856, District of Clyde, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland; d. 10 May 1917, Longford Mills, Rama Twp., Ontario Co., Ontario; m. MARGARET (MAGGIE) MCDONALD, 13 Dec 1881, Hutchesontown Parish, Lanark Co., Scotland; b. 19 Jun 1862, Scotland; d. 15 Dec 1913, Orillia, Simcoe Co., Ontario. Thomas Murdock’s children were:- Peter, at South River; Mrs. J. R. Retty, Parry Sound; and George, Thomas, Norman, Arthur, Harold, Lorne, Jessie, and Florence living at are living at Longford Mills, Ontario (My great aunts and uncles. When THOMAS Sr. (MURDOCH) MURDOCK (d. 1917), his son the “Informant” on the Ontario Death Certificate may have given the name of George Murdock being the father of Thomas Sr. Murdock (d.1917), not knowing that the first name of his father’s father might have been Peter. The only marriage document in Glasgow in December 1881 listed Thomas Sr. Murdoch’s father as Peter Murdoch, as well as naming his spouse’s father as George McDonald.; his wife was listed as Margaret McDonald. The Ontario Death certificate listed Thomas Murdock’s wife as Margaret Murdock. Depending on which Ontario government document that is researched read, the name Murdoch changed to Murdock.
