Joseph Cammell or Joe Campbell. Lived or worked in Knox County, Indiana area 1916 give or take 5 years. Stella Perkiser,AKA Lena Estella Purkhiser listed Joseph Cammell as my dad's birth father when she made him a ward of the courts in Knox County, IN September 10, 1917. Gladys Fraser, Supervisor in the Children's Division of the State Department of Public Welfare of Indiana swore in an Affidavit nortized by her facts here true to her knowledge. Records in 1917 were kept by Indiana Board of State Charities which was the Department of Public Welfare at the time of this Affidavit April, 1942. Dad was born July 17, 1917. Joe Timmons was made foster parent September 20, 1917. He and Helen Francis Cottom Timmons adopted dad in 1942. Dad was known as Joseph Edward Timmons from September 20, 1917. His adopted parents lived in Vencinnes at the time they took dad from the Knox County Orphan Asylum. They moved to Terre Haute, IN within 2 years, give or take 5 years and lived there at the time of their deaths. Dad lived in Terre Haute, IN all his life except for a short time in Indianapolis. I have a copy of the original Affidavit which dad had unknown to any of us prior to his and my mothers death. I have a copy of the 1942 adoption papers from Terre Haute, IN court records. I have copies of the Knox County Orphan Asylum. Can't find original adoption records, original birth certificate or records concerning the birth, reasons for giving him up, etc. My understanding the actual father could be a Joe Campbell. I did try in 2002 to gain access to dads records through the Indiana agency responsibile for such records. I had to make several f/u's and they finally told me the records were still sealed. I felt I was not given much consieration and could've been told this b/4 I filled out tons of paperwork, etc. I can prove and could then both my dad and his birth mom are deceased. Now, I'm fairly certain the birth father is gone to since this was 1917 and it's now 2009. I'll try some old phone numbers and contacts since I've found a lot of the records we couldn't find now are indexed, etc. Really at a brick wall here and need any help I can get.
