In the late 1830s or 1840 a whaler/sailor by the name of James Loper settled in New Zealand. He probably came from a family in the New England area-Sage Harbour, Nantucket, Long Island etc and would have been born in about 1820. Does anyone in this area know of a likely lineage for this man.
