William Hunter Family-b. Sligo Ireland, went to Australia c.1840's (possibly a decade before) His father was Robert Hunter, b c.1888, and mother was Mary. William was my gr gr grandmother, Isabella Parke nee Hunter's 1st cousin. William may have married Katherine Chambers of Ireland. I would like to contact any descendents of this family that may still be in Australia today. I know about William from a letter written in 1852 from Sligo by my 3gr grandfather, George Hunter (William's uncle) to his children living in America. Alexander was probable grandfather of William. Eliza and John are also common names to this family. William had a sister Margaret Yewn nee Hunter who died in Ireland. William, Thomas,John and Sarah were also siblings of Robert and George. To the best of my knowledge the family had been in Ireland since the Cromwell Ironsides invasion c. 1653, and later had a falling out with Cromwell over his attepts to control the Church of Ireland. Surnames 2-5 are connected by marriage, also Hill, and McIlwaine. The families appear to have lived near Bendigo and Victoria, and a place called "Burnewang Station". | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
