I have a Grandfather Joseph William Gardiner (Nesbit) born in Nydia Bay, Pelorus 14th May 1887. His mother was Jemima Gardiner of Picton born 10th Feb 1868. She married Charles Frederick Nesbit 3rd January 1890 in Blenheim. There seems to be no adoption papers for Joseph so was wondering if anyone knows who his natural father is? Joseph married a Helen Grace Jefferies who was born in London 13th April 1886, they divorced some years later and Joseph stayed in Nelson while Helen went to the north island. They had 4 children, one of which was my mother. Does anybody know if there is a census of Nydia Bay in 1886 and again in 1888? Joseph was involved with the fire brigade, rugby, hunting and he worked for a time at the breweries in Nelson. Regards Lynn | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
