Text: I wish to locate the township and/or parish where my great grandparents, James Murray and his wife, Rose Mary Gallagher, came from in County Galway. Mr. Murray arrived in Ontario, Canada some time between 1847 and 1853. He married Ms.Gallagher on Oct. 1, 1853 at St. John the Baptist Church in Perth, Ont. Ms. Gallagher and her family had moved from Galway to Glasgow in the 1840s because of the famine in Ireland. She apparently came to Canada from Scotland. A Canadian book lists the parents of James Murray as Bernard & Margaret McElerny and the parents of Ms. Gallagher as Daniel & Janet Horn. THe Murrays settled in Lanarck County, Ontario, where they raised six children, four of whom moved to Minnesota, USA. Do you have any information on the parishes or townships of the Murray-Gallagher parents and whether any of their families still live in these areas?
