Looking for information on a William HAGGERTY and his wife Margaret Butler HAGGERTY. Margaret was born in Glenwood Township,Winneshiek County, Iowa in April of 1883. Her father was James Joseph BUTLER born in Dunkirk, New York. Her mother was Catherine CURTIN from the Waukon, Iowa area. Catherine's mother was Sarah RYAN and her father was Daniel CURTIN. Margaret's mother died on December 13, 1883 some 8 months after her birth. After her mother's death her father, James moved to Indiana and married a Mary BEATTY from Richmond, Indiana. In the 1900 Census they lived in Addison Township, Shelby County, Indiana. She is listed in that census as the daughter of James and Mary and born in Indiana. That is not correct, as she was born in Iowa and is the daughter of James, but the step-daughter of Mary, and the daughter of Catherine Curtin BUTLER from Iowa. She was 17 years old in the 1900 Census. I know she married a William HAGGERTY, who we now think was born in Union County, Iowa in February 1884 and was 16 years old in the 1900 Federal Census. I think William HAGGERTY was the son of Walter and Anna HAGGERTY. William's father is found in the 1920 Federal Census living on his own in Wyoming. There are no military records of William HAGGERTY and he disappears, and does not show up on the 1910 Federal Census or any later censuses. I am assuming that William died sometimes between 1905 and 1910. Margaret BUTLER HAGGERTY eventually moved to California. In the 1930 Federal Census she is listed as Margaret B. HAGGERTY, age 40, married, from Iowa, living on her own at West 87th Street, Los Angeles, and working as a sales lady in a department store. Margaret HAGGERTY on the Social Security Index as born 17th of Feb. 1883 and died Nov. 1964 in California. In the California State Death Records Margaret B. HAGGERTY was born 11th Feb. 1883 Iowa, died 11th Nov. 1964 in Los Angles. In the 1930 Census it states that she has been married for 25 years, that would put her marriage to William about 1905, and apparently had no children. Any information would be apperciated.
