Vermillion/Parke/Vigo County Time period: 1830-1870 SURNAME: Jones Seeking information on any Jones surname in the above listed counties during the above listed time period. My great grandfather was Clark Jones, who was born in Parke County, near Rockville 27 March 1845. Little is known about him prior to 1870, except that he entered the Civil War in 1861 from Indiana and was injured near the end of the war and was sent home where he was recuperating when the war ended. He supposedly served in the 8th Missouri Regiment, Company L, but we can find no record under that name. Possibly, his father's name was David Jones. It is said that Clark Jones was half or full blooded Cherokee. If anyone has any Jones information for that time period, I am hoping it may bring up a clue to Clark Jones existance prior to 1870. I am also seeking any information on any Native American Indians in that area, too. I understand there was a Jones or Jones Town that consisted of mainly Native American Indians in Vermillion/Parke County vicinity. Thank You.
