I am looking for descendants of John West and Bessie Hicks (nee Hawken) West who emigrated to New Zealand in 1876 from Cornwall England. They kept a hotel SW of Christchurch at Selwyn. John died a young man of 37 yrs, two years following a horse and trap accident. He was buried at Oxford (NZ) cemetery on 11th Oct 1885. He left his wife and two daughters, the eldest aged 7yrs Philippa Ann. As far as I know Philippa lived beyond 80yrs (visited Cornwall in 1957) and may have had a husband named Frank and two children, one of which may have been John. Grandchildren (my third cousins) may be named Barbara, Gillian, Ewan, Sheila, Shona, Philippa and Suzanne. Suzanne born c.1947. I do not have a surname for Frank and therefor am finding the family difficult to trace. Any help please... | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
