I am researching my husband’s great great grandfather William Carolan, who was born in Donegal about 1825. He appears to have gone to Edinburgh between 1841 and 1851 (due to the famine?). The only clue to his birth place was in the Edinburgh 1861 census which just gave it as Donegal, but I need more than that to pinpoint his birth. He was a master shoemaker by trade. He married Mary Lawrie in Edinburgh in 1856 His parents were Charles Carolan and Susan Marley (from his death certificate) and he had a brother Hugh who reported his death in Edinburgh in 1863 under the name of Carlon. | |||||||||||||||||||||
