Query Text:

In 1926 Cleveland, OH a divorce was granted to my paternal GM (nee'Bertha Reichard) from GF Frank G. McBride who, it seems, was your stereotypical drunken Irishman. Locked in the Ohio Pen,he was no help to GM raising the 4 boys he had produced, but my mouth dropped open when I read about them. The divorce document, which I just picked up by chance when I became interested in genealogy a couple of years ago, states ...."There are four children as the issue of said marriage, to-wit: Frank seven yrs of age, Buddy five yrs of age, Bobby three yrs of age and baby-seven months old." My father, Joseph, is "Buddy", but in our family there are no uncles "Bobby" and younger by GF McBride. GM Bertha moved on with her two older girls by a previous marriage, my uncle Frank and my father, and married Fred Jerman and had 5 more "Jerman" kids. My father, growing up being known as one of the Jerman kids, legally changed his name to Jerman at age 18. Ironically, after my own divorce in '86 and having always disliked the last name Jerman, I legally changed mine back to McBride. It's who I am after all. I know that my GF was born to Frank G. and Addie McBride on 01-25-1891, in Hinckley (Medina County),OH, just southwest of Cleveland. I know nothing about where they came from. GM Bertha, born 3-14-1895, lists her parents as Albert Bentley and Lily Alice Reichard. I know nothing about Albert's background, but Lily's supposed to have been born in Lairdsville (Lycoming County), PA on 3-30-1875. My GM, Bertha, states on 3 marriage licenses that she's from Potter County, PA but I have been there several times in search of her and the elusive Lily and NO ONE in Potter County remembers Reichards EVER living among them. At the time Lily was born there was nothing IN Potter County but a tannery and thousands of square miles of forest; Bertha's birth time too. If anyone reading all this recognizes any pieces of the puzzle and would be so kind as to email me I would be eternally grateful. I am looking for (1)Lily's roots (2)Albert Bentley's roots (they both migrated to Geauga County, OH...some say they were married, some say not)(3)the McBride roots back in Hinckley, OH, and my two missing uncles, Bobby and "baby" McBride who would have been put up for adoption in 1926 or'27 Cleveland, OH. Good luck in all your searches! Donna McBride
