My mother's maternal great grandfather was James Edward Higgins; born County Monaghan, Ireland Dec. 24, 1832; died Aug. 16, 1899 at Elkhart, Polk County, Iowa (near Story County!); buried Holy Cross Cemetery, Farrar (Civil War Veteran); married Lydia Mathes and they had 5 children: Charlie (m. Ivie Wire) Eliza (m. Wm. O'Neal) Above 2 went to Saskatchewan, Canada, in 1910 Ed Kate m. Garry Ault Mary m.
