Anastacio and Victoria (Chapa) Alvarado appear in the 1910 census of Bexar County Texas, part of J-Pct 4 living on Old Sulphur Springs (Sutherland Springs) Road, residence 142. With them are 2 children: Jesus (5) and Salvador (1). Anastacio was 24 years old, working as a section hand for the railroad. He is listed as being born in Mexico, as were his parents. Victoria was 19 years old, listed as having been born in Texas, as were her parents. The census indicates the area as near/around St. Hedwig and/or La Vernia, Texas. Another son, Francisco, was born 1910 after the census was taken and is not listed. Apparently , the Alvarado family was still living in the same general area around 1918 or 1919. The last we know of Victoria was that around that time, she and her youngest son, Francisco (about 8 years old at the time), walked several days to La Coste in Medina County Texas, to see relatives. The youngest son Francisco next appears in the 1920 census with the Luis Ortega family in Fort Bend, Texas. No other member of the Alvarado family appears in any census after the 1910 census. Research indicates that Anastacio Alvarado had at least two brothers, Rafael and Reynaldo, and three sisters, Julia, Cleotilde, and Rosa. We don’t know if Victoria Chapa had any siblings as we have not been able to find any information. Jesus’s last name is Ortiz and is a half-brother of Salvador and Francisco Alvarado. His death certificate lists his parents as Vicente Ortiz and Victoria Chapa. Jesus was born 28 Nov 1905 and died 26 May 1961 in Corpus Christi, Nueces County, Texas. He lived in Robstown, Texas. Francisco Alvarado was born 17 Sep 1910 and died 17 Apr 1988. He is buried at Ft. Sam Houston Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. We have not been able to find any trace of whatever happened to Anastacio Alvarado, Victoria (Chapa) Alvarado, or their son, Salvador Alvarado. Any help to find whatever may have happened to them, where they may have died, or where they may be buried is greatly appreciated. | |||||||||||||||||||||
