Looking for descendants of James Purcell, born County Kerry Ireland ~ 1842, died July 27 1898 in Meriden CT. James Purcell was born ~ 1842, Kenmare, County Kerry, Ireland (townland of Gearhadiveen – located near the valley intersecting the Shehy Mountains to the east -- and the Caha Mountains extending to the west into the Beara Peninsula. The nearest settlement was Kenmare, situated north of the Kenmare River about 5-km to the north-west of Gearhadiveen). James Purcell's parents were James and Anna Purcell. James Purcell emigrated to the United States ~ 1858, likely through the port of New York (unconfirmed). It is not known if he traveled alone or with family members (father James Purcell, mother Anna Purcell, brother Edward Purcell, sisters Elizabeth Purcell, Catherine Purcell (McGann), and Anne Purcell (Buckley). Beginning in 1863, James Purcell was a stonemason in the employ of the H. Wales Lines Company, a Meriden CT contracting firm. James Purcell continued to be in the employ of the H. Wales Lines Company for over 35 years until his death in 1898. James Purcell married 1st wife Rosa Anne Fallon in 1867. Rosa Anne Fallon was born in Ballycumber, County Offaly, Ireland ~ 1842. James and Rosa were married October 13, 1866, at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church in Meriden, CT. James Purcell and Rosa Fallon Purcell had 5 children, all born in Meriden, CT: 1)James John Purcell born January 29 1868 (died April 6, 1887 Meriden CT); 2)William Robert Purcell born August 2 1869 (died October 17, 1931 New Britain CT); 3)Edward Thomas Purcell born March 26 1871 (died February 10, 1943 Jackson Heights NY); 4)Julia Anne Purcell born January 11 1873 (died September 14, 1933); and 5)Richard Purcell born February 22 1875 (died August 5, 1875 Meriden CT). Rosa Anne Purcell died February 23, 1875, in Meriden, CT. of childbed fever. James Purcell (now a widower) married 2nd wife Mary Loughran in 1878. Mary Loughran was born in County Tyrone, Ireland ~ 1851. James Purcell and 2nd wife Mary Loughran Purcell were married on June 20, 1878 at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church in Meriden, CT.
