Am searching for info re the family from which my great-grandfather, Charles Walker (possible middle initial "A"), descended. He was born on 09 July 1852 in Bolanden, Wuerttemberg, Germany; German given name Carl; emigrated from Germany to U.S. in 1866; married Caroline Sophia Saussele ("Saussler" is the Americanized spelling) in Cuyahoga Co, OH, on 03 Nov 1874. The couple settled in Cleveland, OH; raised 2 sons, Charles Christian Walker (my grandfather) and Henry A. Walker; a third son, Eddie, died in infancy. My great-grandfather Charles died on 08 Oct 1919 in Cleveland and was buried in Cleveland's Monroe Cemetery. Am particularly interested in learning anything about his parents and any siblings he might have had. His mother's maiden name may have been "Schafer". Charles was somehow related to Christian E. Schafer, John E. Schafer, and Mary Schafer, all three born in Michigan to John & Christine Scha(e)fer (from somewhere in Wuerttemberg, Germany), but I haven't yet determined his connection to them. Curiously, Mary Schafer married a Saussler (Christian), just as did my great-grandfather (to Caroline Sophia Saussele or Saussler). I'm wondering if perhaps Mary's husband & Caroline were brother & sister; I know that Caroline did, in fact, have an older brother named Christian. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
