Who's Mary Porter? The Jabez "Jabish" Gifford Bible lists Mary Porter b. 1767, probably in Dutchess County, NY - d. 1806 Pittstown, NY I do not know how she ties into the Gifford Bible. Porters in Dutchess county (Tax list) were John Porter 1749, Joseph Porter 1742, Joshua Porter 1756, Robert Porter 1761, William Porter 1760, David Porter 1772-1779, Aaron Porter, Francis Porter and my 1st suspect is NATHANIEL PORTER 1741 1742. Jabish Gifford named his only son Nathaiel Gifford, which the name Nathaniel is not a common Gifford name,(their was a Nathan Gifford but distant relation), and a Nathan Close, who was Jabish Giffords wifes uncle. Perhaps Mary Porter is a daughter of a unknown sister of Jabish Gifford or his wife Miriam Close? Any clues or comments, feel free!
