Hi! I am looking for anyone who may have information on John C. Peterson of Johnson County, IL. His wife's name was Eliza Jane Kelley. He was born in 1826 and died in 1892. He was 49 when he and Eliza were married, so therefore he may have been married previously. I am especially interested on any input as to who his parents may have been. Eliza's obituary states that her second husband, William, was John's brother, but because of the conflicting information on census records about the birth parents of each, I don't believe they were. I realize that census records sometimes contain mistakes, but John's parents were both listed as being born in NC, and William's in TN and IL (I believe William's parents were Owen Peterson and Elizabeth Mercer, and they would have been too young to be John's parents.)...I could better understand a mistake in the census on one parent than I can BOTH.
