I am searching for relatives of my maternal great-grandfather John James Coates, born 16 Oct 1865. He married Amelia Wigham 16 May 1885. Amelia was born 3 June 1864. Both were born in the NE of England, Sunderland, Durham areas. John and Amelia came to Australia where he mined at Mt Morgan, where my grandmother, Ivy Amelia, (Later married Frederick Wilhelm Schumann) was born in 1893. Apparently some of his siblings came to Australia also. The names I have are Joe, Francis and Bessie. Connections I have are hotels in Queensland and Rockhampton. Other names are Neville and Dorothy Coates (hotel Rockhampton 1945) Bill & Will Foran and Ethel & Edie Franklin. I know nothing of these people only that the names are somehow connected with the family. Sister Bessie may have married a 'Tilden". If anyone has any information on this family it would be great.
