I know that my Great Grandmother, Catherine (Kate) Holmes was born in Co. Roscommon according to the 1901 Ireland Cenus. I believe she was born on April 11, 1865. Another record indicates that she was born in Cullagh, Roscommon County, and was baptised April 16, 1865 in Tarmonbary Roman Catholic Parish. We have also found her referenced as Katie Stanislaus. Her godparents were Patrick and Elizabeth Ratigan. Her parents were Michael Holmes and Ann Casey. Catherine went to Australia at some point and was married to Frank Weakley on November 14, 1895 in Monal Creek, Australia. Catherine was back in Ireland in 1901 living with her father Michael Holmes in house 1, Gorttoose, (Bumlin, Roscommon). In 1910, Catherine is living in Providence, Rhode Island, United States. Here's what I kmow about the family: Michael Holmes Lived in house 1 in 1901 and house 2 in 1911 Gorttoose (Bumlin, Roscommon). He was born between 1921 and 1925 in Co. Roscommon. He married Ann Casey on February 27, 1862 at Strokestown Roman Catholic Parish in Roscommon County, Ireland. The witnesses were Thomas Holmes and Mary Murtagh. Michael was a farmer. Ann was born abt. 1822. Michael and Ann had five children (one I mentioned above) 1. Mary Holmes DOB est. 1863 - Married Michael Carlos about 1903 - They stilled lived in Gorttoose, (Bumlin, Roscommon) 2. Catherine Holmes DOB April 11, 1865 Cullagh, Rosommon, Ireland. Bap. April 16, 1865 Tarmonbarry RC Parish / Died Dec. 23. 1859 in Providence, Rhode Island. 3. Edward Holmes DOB August 13, 1866 (AKA: NED) 4. Bridget Holmes DOB approx May 5, 1867 Gortoose, Roscommon County, Ireland. Bap. May 17, 1867 Kilglass RC Parish. Immitgrated to the United States and Lived in Providence, Rhode Island. 5. Ann Holmes DOB approx September 2, 1872 in Gorttoose, Roscommon. Bap. September 9, 1872 Kilglass RC Parish. In 1901 Michael Holmes is a Widower - Not sure when Ann Casey Holmes died. I have been told that records of Census papers for 1891 the housing and building returns show that Michael Holmes built a house of "stone, brick, and concrete". So, a distant cousin who visited the area throught the remains of the buildings belonged to Michael. This same cousin aslo indicated in a letter dated 1999 that the cemetery is off the road in a cow pasture and you would pass it by if you didn't know where it was there. A local, Finbar Holmes (not a relative of ours that we could tell) tried to described where the Holmes stone was (no name on it) and they thought they found it, but was not sure and they still where still not sure which Holmes' where buried there. I also believe from looking at the Census Records from 1901 and 1911 that Michael may have lived near two of his brothers. I drew this conclusions becasue they where all Holmes who lived right next to each other and they were all close in Age. So, I Believe that Michael's brother's where: John Holmes DOB abt. 1836, (He married Bridget BOB abt 1849, Their children - Thomas, Patrick, Michael, James, Annie, and Ellie. I bleieve they had five more children - one of which died before 1911) Thomas Holmes - DOB abt. 1830, He lived with John and his family. Thomas had cancer in 1911 - He was 81 years of age. So, I don't really know that name of the cemetery they reference in the letter from 1999, and would like to know which cemetery my ancestors are buried in?? I would like to find out when my 2 times Great Grandmother Anne Casey died and where she is buried??
