I am looking for information on the Davis and Garrett families that lived in Tula and Oxford, MS from around the time of the War Between the States. My Grandfather, Iverson Wayne Davis (born 1902?)was one of 11 kids. I believe his father's name was Frank. Some of the other siblings were: Bem, Buelah, Mary, Elsie. The two listed sisters raised my Granddaddy and the youngest brother, Elsie. Around 1912-16(?) their father and two or three brothers left MS and rode a railroad cattle car (with Mules and farming implements) to Lamesa, TX where they made a cotton crop. They were partners with some cousins, Oswalds. Then returned to MS. They did the same a second season. Then the family, at least part of it, relocated to west Texas. My Grandfather married Jimmie Lodie Garrett, of Tula around 192(?). Her Mother's maiden name was Hipp I beleive. They had been high school sweethearts. The couple moved to Memphis, where Granddaddy was a postman. My father, Jimmie I. Davis was born there. The family eventually moved to Jacksonville, TX, 1927 or 28. Both Granddaddy (1991-2) and Grandmother (1974) are buried there. | |||||||||||||||||||||
