I am a white male adoptee. I was born on July 7, 1974 reportedly at Oconee Memorial Hospital in Seneca, South Carolina. Dr. Eula Pate (whose office was located in Walhalla at the time) was the delivering physician, and my birth mother might have had some connection (a friendship, perhaps) with Dr. Bill Wilson, a radiologist working in Oconee and Pickens Counties of South Carolina and Stephens, Rabun (possibly Hart) and Franklin Counties in Georgia. My birth mother was said to be from Georgia, and could have been as old as 39 at the time of my birth. I've been told she was very poor, had auburn hair and was a very kind, pleasant person. I have also been told that she had a 19-year-old son at the time who was unaware of her pregnancy, indicating to me that they didn't live together. Additionally, she was said to reside in or near Fair Play, South Carolina (minutes from the Georgia line) at the time I was born. On the other hand, what I've been told about my supposed birth mother could all be a fabrication since I do not fully trust my source. However, my adoptive mother recalls seeing the attorney, Howard Ballenger (who became a judge and is now deceased) clumsily cover up "Kathy O'Kelly" or "Kathy O'Kelley" on the adoption papers. There is no recollection of anyone by this name working in his office, and a search for paralegals at the Clerk of Court's office in Oconee County, South Carolina has found no one by this name. This could very well be my mother. Any help in locating either birth parent or other pertinent information would be greatly appreciated.
