Hello, my birth name is Derek Stafford (Van Der Merwe) and I am searching for my birth parents. Birth mother- Ruth Helene Van Der Merwe gave birth to me on 23rd November 1955 at the Addington Hospital in Durban. Ruth named me Derek Stafford. Ruth was about 19-22 years old at the time. Ruth was born and grew up in Pretoria. Ruth lived at 220 Struben Street, Pretoria. Ruth I believe, was at teachers college at the time of her pregnancy.Ruth spoke Afrikaans and her second language was English.Ruth's mother was an American and her father was born in South Africa. My birth father is Rodney Vivian Stafford who was born in Kimberley and later lived in Pretoria.He was South African English. At time of my birth Rodney was at University doing a Bachelor of Science Degree.Rodney's parents were both South African English.Rodney's father was a Hotel owner. Rodney's mother was a public(civil) servant. In Durban on the 1st December 1955 both Ruth and Rodney signed the adoption papers consenting to my adoption.
