Query Text: |
I am searching for a female born 25 Jul 1950 in or near Cullman, Alabama, probably at the Salvation Army Home for Unwed Mothers in Birmingham. The birthmother's name would be Mavis Tucker or Mavis Sanders. The baby's birthname might be Brenda Carol. Unsure which surname was used. My Aunt Mavis Sanders Tucker was living in Memphis with her parents, young son, and younger sister, divorced, age 30, at the time she became pregnant. (All I know of the father is that he was married and probably didn't know about the pregnancy.) My grandmother insisted that she leave town and give up the child. Mavis went to stay with her older sister, Donnie Sanders Carter (wife of Grady) in Cullman, AL. When it was time for the baby to be born, she was sent to the home for unwed mothers where the baby was delivered. Aunt Donnie saw the baby; Mavis was not allowed to see her. Unfortunately, Mavis died in 2002, but Brenda has two living half brothers and at least one cousin--me--who would like to find her and know what happened to her. It hurt my aunt deeply to give her up, and I don't believe a day went by that she didn't think about her daughter and wonder where she was and if she was okay. | |||||||||||||||||||||
