The US Naturalization papers for JOHN GIBSON say that he was born in County Tyrone, Ireland, but his tombstone d 1868 in Albany, NY, USA that says he was born in Galway, Ireland. The information I have is that John was born 8 November 1796 to William GIBSON (abt 1767-1821) and Mary GRAHAM (bet 1753-1775 to ca 1800). William Gibson and Mary Graham also had a daughter Mary (ca 1798-unknown). William GIBSON was born about 1767 in Ireland to an unknown Gibson born ca 1737 in Scotland in the Buchanan clan, his mother was an unknown HARE (of Irish ancestry). William Gibson married 1st Mary Graham ca 1795 (Mary was a widow, do not know if Graham was her maiden name or her married name), married 2nd unknown ca 1801, and married 3rd Sarah Langford ca 1813. William Gibson's children with Mary Graham were John (b 1796) and Mary (abt 1798-unknown). William's children with unknown wife (who died in childbirth) were Susan (abt 1810-unknown, married unknown Quinn), Margaret (abt 1804-unknown, married Thomas Donaldson), Eliza (b abt 1803), Robert (abt 1802-1885, married unknown) and Sarah (abt 1812-unknown, married Samuel Stephens). William's children with Sarah Langford were Jane (1813-1858, married unknown Lloyd), Lucy (1814-1905, never married) and William (1821-1901, never married). I was told that all the children were born in Galway, but no one has proof of this. I have death certificates for several of William's children, but all they list for place of birth is Ireland. All of William Gibson's children eventually left Ireland and went to the USA except for Eliza, who married Robert Robinson and lived in Dublin, they had children Susan (b abt 1822), Annie (b abt 1823), Robert (b abt 1824) and Lizzie (b abt 1825). I have not been able to find a ship passenger list with John Gibson and his children to supply any clues. My great aunt used to repeat a story her mother (Amelia Gibson) told her about how the original Gibson was a Scottish shepherd who eloped with a titled lady of the manor and left, but have found no way to verify the story or to learn their names. John GIBSON (1796-1868) married Mary SPEARMAN (1798-ca 1839) in 1819 (have no proof of Mary Spearman's name, just that Simon's descendants claim that his middle name was his mother's maiden name) and had children Robert (1820-1885), Henry (1823-unknowm, married Mary), William (1824-bef 1914, married Mary Brock), Sarah (1826-bef 1920, married John Lange), John (1830-1862, married Euphemia Wood), Simon Spearman (1832-1911, married Catherine Parks), James (1834-unknown, married Hester Devlin), Leonard (1835-unknown, married Sarah Baughan) and Samuel (1836-bef 1928, married Catherine). John's wife Mary Spearman died after 1836 and John GIBSON emmigrated to NY, USA ca 1839, where he settled in Albany. John married 2nd Mary Haden (b abt 1812 Ireland-1892 Albany, NY, her father was Patrick Haden). John Gibson was a horse farrier and then a veterinarian in the US; he was a Presbyterian. The information I have found on the Buchanan clan said that after the last chieftain (Gilbert Buchanan) died the clan members migrated to Ulster, and John Gibson's Naturalization papers say that he was born in County Tyrone. John Gibson was my 3rd great grandfather. Any information or clues would be greatly appreciated!
