I am looking for relatives of African American families hailing from Bedford and Rutherford counties in Tennessee. Surnames are POPE, GARRETT, HENRY, CHAFFIN. The earliest ancestors that I can trace are Moses "Tobe" Pope and wife Mary Jane (nee Lawrence or Lamb?), Al Moses Garrett and wife Rebekah Francis Pope [Coffey](daughter of Tobe and Mary Jane and widow of William Coffey), Thomas W Henry and wife Martha (nee Weatherly?), and Miles Chaffin and wife Alice (?). I believe Al Moses Garrett's parents were named Jack (a blacksmith) and Annie. My grandparents through whom I traced these ancestors were Pope Garrett, Sr. and Hattie Bell Henry [Garrett] and they died in Clarksville, Tennessee. | |||||||||||||||||||||
