Looking for information concerning JOHN McDONALD (1774-1840) who lived in Jefferson County, Georgia, ca 1790 to 1840. John died and was buried on the Ogoochie River in Jefferson in 1840. One record (no source) says his wife was Mary. Known children: 1) Jane McDonald, born 1798, married 1818 Shepherd Green. 2) Rachel E. McDonald, b. 1806, married 1824 Robert Littleton Albritton. Middle initial of Rachel changes from E to A, and varies. Moved to Lee County, GA., where R. L. Albritton died 1847. Descendants moved to Barbour Co., ALA, and other places. 3) Mary Anna McDonald, b. 1809, married 1824 Thomas Green Jr. 4) John McDonald, b. 1812. 5) Lovey Emmaline McDonald, b. 1814, may have married a Pruett. 6) James Madison McDonald, b. 1816, married Mary Cannon in 1842 in Florida? 7) John Allen McDonald, b. 1820. 8) Randall/Randon/Ranald McDonald, b. 1820. 9) Adline McDonald. 10) Sarah McDonald who married a Green, and had at least Thomas Jefferson Green who married in 1885 Lee County, Georgia to whom? MtDNA proves that Rachel McDonald (my ancestress) and her mother "Mary" is related to Ghigooie of the Bird Clan, a full blood Cherokee, who married William Shorey (d. 1762 off Newfoundland on trip back to England with Lt. Henry Timberlake). I am trying to ascertain how Rachel and Mary exactly are related to Ghigooie. Not certain of which generation of women they connect. Ghigooie of the Bird Clan and William Shorey lineage is written about in Dr. Emmet Starr's Old Cherokee Families. William & Ghigooie met Timberlake at Fort Lewis (now Salem, Virginia) in 1762. They had a daughter Anna Shorey, who married John TiTaSgiSgi McDonald, the British Deputy Indian Agent, lived around Lookout Mountain, and had a daughter Mary Mollie Molly McDonald who married Daniel Ross and had Chief John Ross. Ghigooie and William also had a son also named William Shorey (d. 1809) who had three daughters, and lived in Tennessee, as he appears in the records of the Cherokee Agency. I am trying to contact BETH GAY who placed info on this McDonald family on Any info is appreciated!
