Query Text:

Roth The Volga German Society of Ellis County was able to obtain a number of census records from Catholic villages on the Volga in Russia. These census records are most valuable to establish family genealogies. This we learned about the Roths: Johann Adam Roth was born in Europe in 1753 and came with his family as a 13-year-old boy to Russia where his family settled in Fransosen (Rossoshi) the only French village to be established. This was in 1765. It does not know if the Roths were French or where they came from in Europe, but in any event, the colony where they lived was a French colony. In the Franzosen census of 1798 we learn that Johann Adam Roth, who was now a married man with a family, moved to Kamenka in 1791. Johann Adam Roth from Rosschi (Franzosen) age 45, his wife Elizabeth Kress from same age 43. Sons: Joseph, 23; Johannes, 17; Sebastian, 9; Michael, 2; Daughters: Katarina, 12; Christina, 5 Sebastian 9 born 1789 Michael 2 born 1796 One of these two boys was the father of Peter Roth Sr. Peter Roth Sr. born 1823 m. Maria Anna Jacobs nee Bahl – 1823 Johannes Roth born 1860 m. Anna Margaret Urban born 1864 George Roth born 1882 m. Christina Jacobs born 1886 Lilian Dorothy Roth born 1930 m. Edgar J. Basgall born 1929 In checking the census records of Pfeifer, Rothamel, Kamenka and Franzosen in Russia, we found only one (1) Roth – that being Johann Adam. All of the Roths in Pfeifer, Kansas descended from this man. Peter Roth and family along with several other families arrived in Pfeifer, Kansas from Kamernka, Russia 6-20-78. Rupp/Dreiling F. Peter Dreiling and Margaret Bieker with Peter’s parents IV Anton Dreiling and Mary Elizabeth Rupp. By a co-incidence (not usual among us Volga Germans) Joyce – Kevin’s wife is also a great great granddaughter of Johann Gerog Rupp (1794) Johann Georg is the great-great-great grandpa of Kevin Rupp of hays and great-great grandpa of Elizabeth Weigel of Hays, Kansas. John N. Wasinger Grandfather of Elizabeth Brungardt Dreiling came to the USA at age 14 from Graf, Russia in April of 1893. In 1901 he married Clara Weigel (great-aunt of Lawrence A. Weigel). He and Clara along with a number of other families including that of John P. Weigel went to Hayward, Wisc. The group stays in Haysward Wis until 1905 when they returned to Kansas. Clara died in 1909 and John was left with 3 small children; He married Catherine Dreiling, a single girl and their first-born was Augusta – mother of Elizabeth Brungardt Dreiling. He was a wonderful, kind and loving man. Anton Wasinger Sr. was on of the scouts who came to America in 1874 looking for a new home for our people. In 1876 he and his family came to the USA to stay. Ancestral home of Josef Wasinger in Germany before he migrated to Russia in 1766.
