William Childs was born in Comber, N. Ireland about 1763. He married Isabella who was born in Comber about 1765. They had three children - James, Elizabeth and Isabella. Isabella married Samuel McCleery and emigrated to the USA. James married Frances Gibson and along with most of their ten children - Richard (b. 1822) Jane (b.1824) George (B.1826) Isabella (b.1827) Robert (b. 1831) Elizabeth (b.1834) William (b.1835) Adam (b. 1837) Thomas Alexander (b.1840) Henry (b. 1844) emigrated to West Rainton, Durham, England. Thomas Alexander was my great grandfather. In the mid 1850’s, Elizabeth, Jane, Isabella and Richard all emigrated to America - mostly the Genessee area of New York - although I believe Richard may have become a farmer and I believe he was related to John L. (Later Judge John L.) Childs.. I am stuck regarding the parents and any brothers or sisters of William (1). All I have is that he was born approx 1763 in Comber. There may be connections with a Hugh Childs who married Margaret Conn in Comber and also, I’m told, there may be connections with a Joe Childs who was a jockey. I live in Durham about 5 miles from West Rainton. Anyone who can add to the above or who can cast any light on other possible connections then I would love to hear from you.
