I am the 3 x Gr Grandson of Samuel ROSS a Coastguardsman born about 1789 in County Down. Samuel married Agnes MENZIES ? a Lassie from Morayshire, Scotland. They lived at Lossiemouth,Scotland and children born there include Eleanor ROSS 1824,Jane ROSS 1826,Isabella ROSS 1834, Andrew ROSS 1837, Samuel ROSS jnr 1837,Agnes ROSS 1847. Three of the children,Eleanor,Andrew and Agnes came to the Goldfields of Hokitika and Ross in Westland, South Island,New Zealand in the 1860s. The family were Church of Ireland and Scottish Episcopalian. I would like to hear from anyone who has Coastguard records or knowledge in County Down.
